Regional Cemetery Associations
Empowering local actors to preserve their Jewish cemeteries.

Regional Jewish cemetery associations will be created in at least three countries to represent and campaign for the protection and promotion of its Jewish cemeteries, involving a range of ages and interests, fostering interest, appreciation and engagement, while combating any local hostility, prejudice or antisemitism.
These associations will utilise the data collected in the previous projects to launch regional-level intervention that targets all Jewish cemeteries in a given region, planning and integrated and comprehensive cultural heritage strategy, whereby sites with strong visible presence and infrastructure will be utilised to contribute to the sustainability, economic investment and local awareness of less privileged sites within the same region.
Consideration will be given to the mobilisation of pan-European regional associations, and site twinning projects through the Council of Europe with scope for cross-border initiatives particularly in areas with close historical links.
EU-funded project by ESJF, Centropa and the Foundation for Jewish Heritage to build awareness on both the historical and contemporary significance of Jewish cemeteries.
