Michael Mail studied law at Strathclyde University in Glasgow followed by Jewish Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Brandeis University in Boston.
He has had a 35 year career in the charity sector with senior roles in several leading UK-based charities.
Michael is a member of the Executive Committee of UK-ICOMOS (International Council of Monuments and Sites) chairing its Development Committee and serves on the International Scientific Committee on Places of Religion and Ritual. He sits on the Board of Brussels-based Future for Religious Heritage chairing its Governance Committee, and was Vice-Chair of Jewish Heritage UK.
Michael is a member of the Greater London Authority’s Partners Board of the Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm, a Trustee of the Garnethill Synagogue Preservation Trust, a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Polish-Jewish Studies, and sits on the Editorial Committee of Jewish Renaissance magazine. Michael has assisted the European Association for the Promotion of Jewish Culture on its cultural routes programme under the Council of Europe.
Michael is also an award-winning author with three published novels, and he devised and produced a contemporary photography exhibition entitled 'Scots Jews: Identity, Belonging and the Future', which is currently touring.
Michael is the Founder and Chief Executive of the Foundation for Jewish Heritage.
